Departmental Dates and Deadlines

UNDERGRADUATE 2011-2012
Registration

All History majors must meet with their mentors prior to registration each semester.  If you don't know who your mentor is, contact Laura E. Miller, Administrative Assistant.

Capstone Completion

The Capstone project must be completed two weeks before the end of the student's final semester of undergraduate coursework.

Completing Incomplete ("I") Grades

For Spring 2011 and Summer 2011 semester courses:

  • Coursework must be completed and given to instructor by Friday, September 30, 2011.
  • Instructor must complete Change of Grade Form and send to Dean's Office no later than Friday, October 7, 2011.

"I" graded courses for which no change-of-grade is received will be converted to a permanent grade of "F".

Graduation

For December 2011 graduation:

  • Degree applications must be received at the Registrar's Office by Friday, October 14, 2011.

For May 2012 graduation:

  • Degree applications must be received at the Registrar's Office by Friday, February 24, 2012.

For August 2012 graduation:

  • Degree applications must be received at the Registrar's Office by Friday, June 15, 2012.
GRADUATE 2011-2012
Graduate Applications

All graduate application materials must be postmarked by:

  • February 1 for Fall entrance
  • November 1 for Spring entrance
Comprehensive Exams

For December 2011 graduates:

  • Establish examining committee by Monday, May 2, 2011. Notify Department Chair.
  • Comprehensive exams must be completed by Monday, November 28, 2011.

For May 2012 graduates:

  • Establish examining committee by Monday, October 3, 2011. Notify Department Chair.
  • Comprehensive exams must be completed by Monday, April 2, 2012.
Thesis Process

For December 2011 graduates:

  • HIST 691 completed with at least an A-.
  • Thesis prospectus completed by early December 2010 (essentially a year before proposed graduation).
  • Prospectus approved by thesis advisor, second reader, and department chair by Tuesday, December 21, 2010.
  • If student has not done so already, a draft of the thesis must be submitted to the advisor (and the second reader, if the reader so desires) by Friday, October 7, 2011.
  • Latest date to submit revised thesis draft to thesis advisor and second reader: Friday, November 4, 2011.
  • Latest date to submit approved thesis to library: Monday, November 28, 2011

For May 2012 graduates:

  • HIST 691 completed and graded (with at least an A-) by Friday, July 29, 2011
  • Thesis prospectus completed by Monday, August 1, 2011
  • Prospectus approved by thesis advisor, second reader, and department chair by Friday, August 12, 2011 (this must be done before student can register for thesis credits)
  • If the student has not done so already, a draft of the thesis must be submitted to the advisor (and the second reader, if the reader so desires) by the middle of February 2012.
  • Latest date to submit revised thesis draft to thesis advisor and second reader: Friday, March 9, 2012
  • Latest date to submit approved thesis to library: Monday, April 2, 2012

 

Completing Incomplete ("I") Grades

When requesting and then working on an Incomplete, graduate students must comply with the departmental requirements that may be found in the Graduate History Handbook.  Please contact Laura E. Miller, Administrative Assistant, for a copy of the Handbook should you need one.

From Fall 2010 term:

  • Coursework must be submitted to instructor no later than Monday, December 5, 2011, or earlier upon the instructor's request.
  • Change of Grade form must be submitted by instructor to Registrar's Office by Monday, December 12, 2011.

From Spring 2011 term:

  • Coursework must be submitted to instructor no later than Friday, April 20, 2012 or earlier upon the instructor's request.
  • Change of Grade form must be submitted by instructor to Registrar's Office by Friday, April 27, 2012.

From Summer 2011 term:

  • Coursework must be submitted to instructor by Friday, July 13, 2012.
  • Change of Grade form must be submitted by instructor to Registrar's Office by Friday, July 20, 2012.

From Fall 2011 term:

  • Coursework must be submitted to instructor by Tuesday, December 11, 2012.
  • Change of Grade form must be submitted by instructor to Registrar's Office by Tuesday, December 18, 2012.
Graduation

For December 2011 graduation:

  • Degree applications must be received at the Registrar's Office by Friday, October 14, 2011.

For May 2012 graduation:

  • Degree applications must be received at the Registrar's Office by Friday, February 24, 2012.

For August 2012 graduation:

  • Degree applications must be received at the Registrar's Office by Friday, June 15, 2012.
