Dr. Blatz is a specialist in the history of the United States from 1850 to 1930. His book, Democratic Miners: Work and Labor Relations in the Anthracite Coal Industry, 1875-1925, was published by State University of New York Press. He was associate editor and a contributor to the book, Keystone of Democracy: A History of Pennsylvania Workers (Harrisburg, 1999).
