Undergraduate

Students enrolled in the undergraduate program will be required to meet Duquesne University Core Curriculum requirements.  Students will also be required to...

  • take their prescribed business classes from professors in the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business.
  • take their required education classes from professors in the School of Education.
  • take additional coursework, appropriate for the certification, from professors in the McAnulty College of Liberal Arts.
  • complete their study by student teaching in a local school district chosen for its ability to meet the program’s strict requirements.

Listed below are the number of credits required for an  Undergraduate degree in Business, Computer, and Information Technology (BCIT).  Please see the Undergraduate Advisement Sheet for specific courses.

Business courses – 42 credits
Foundations of the Leading Teacher Program – 25 credits
University Core – 33  credits
Professional Preparation- 33 credits
Includes 3 credits ESL
Includes 9 credits  Special Ed
Field Experiences in Semesters 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
Student Teaching in Semester 8
Includes 6 credits in Math and 6 credits in English
Includes 1 credits in Information Literacy

BCIT is a K-12 instructional area; therefore,  the three (3) PPST Praxis I, Fundamental Subjects tests are required along with Content Knowledge and Business Education tests to receive an initial PA Certificate.  Visit the PDE website regarding testing requirements.
