Instructional Technology Specialist Certification from the
Pennsylvania Department of Education

This information will help you apply to the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) for your Certification as an Instructional Technology Specialist.  After completing the Instructional Technology Specialist Certificate Program or Master of Science in Instructional Technology Program, you may apply for the Pennsylvania Instructional Technology Specialist Certification. 

To obtain your Pennsylvania Department of Education IT Specialist Certification, you must complete all steps shown below:

Step 1 Student must complete ALL Instructional Technology Core Courses
GILT 511
GILT 512
GILT 513
GILT 514
GILT 515
Step 2 Student must complete the appropriate PDE Competency Checklist then submit to the Program Director.  Students will be notified of any deficiencies in their program.
Step 3 Faculty Advisor must complete the appropriate PDE Competency Checklist.
Step 4 Once all competencies are completed, visit the Student and Academic Services website further information and forms.
Step 5 Student must complete the following PDE forms:
Form 338G
Form 338C (Part A)
Money Order payable to Commonwealth of PA in the amount of $40. (PDE will increase the fee for an Instructional Certification application to $100 effective July 1, 2010). 
A copy of a current, valid, and active Instructional Certificate is also required.
  • If you do not hold a current, valid, and active Instructional Certificate, you must submit official, recent, and passing Praxis I Test scores.
Step 6 Submit all forms from Step 5 to
