The Baker Donelson Diversity Scholarship application is now available. Baker Donelson is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where the individual differences among us are understood, respected, appreciated and recognized as sources of strength of the Firm. These qualities enrich the environment in which we work. With this in mind, Baker Donelson will again award three scholarships to diverse law students who will complete their first year of law school by June 2012. Recipients will be awarded a six-week, salaried 2L Summer Associate position for the summer of 2013 in one of our following offices: Birmingham, AL; Orlando, FL; Atlanta, GA; Baton Rouge and New Orleans, LA; Jackson, MS; Chattanooga, Johnson City, Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville, TN; or Houston, TX. Additionally, each recipient will be awarded $10,000 which will be paid prior to the student's third year of law school to help defray the cost of law school tuition and related expenses.
The Westmoreland Bar Foundation is pleased to offer three law school scholarships, which are available to Westmoreland County (PA) residents for the 2012-2013 school year. Students can be first, second or third year students and must be enrolled for the Fall semester. The Wayne R. Donahue Memorial Scholarship is given annually to a Pennsylvania law school student. Attorney Donahue , a sole practitioner from New Kensington, was a lifelong resident of western Pennsylvania and an alumnus of Duquesne University and the Duquesne University School of Law. The Donald Laird Hankey Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a law school student. Attorney Hankey was a sole practitioner in New Kensington and 65-year member of the Westmoreland Bar Association. The Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2012-2013 school year. To be eligible for an award, students must be attending or accepted to an accredited post-high school educational institution; be a resident of Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Washington or Westmoreland County; demonstrate unmet financial need of at least 1,000 after the financial aid award package has been determined; have at least one parent of Hispanic ancestry; have a minimum QPA of 3.0; and enroll as a full-time student. Awards will range from $1,000 - $2,000. Applications are due by Thursday, May 31, 2012. Additional information and application.
The Mike Eidson Scholarship Fund was established by the AAJ Women Trial Lawyers Caucus in 2008, in honor of AAJ Past President Mike Eidson, whose vision and generosity inspired it. The Scholarship, traditionally given in the amount of $5,000, is awarded annually to a rising 3L (or rising 4L in a night program) female student who has demonstrated a commitment to a career as a plaintiffs' lawyer or criminal defense lawyer, along with dedication to upholding and defending the principles of the Constitution, and to the concept of a fair trial, the adversary system, and a just result for the injured, the accused, and those whose rights are jeopardized. The application deadline is Thursday, May 31, 2012, and the Scholarship will be awarded at the AAJ Annual Convention, which will take place this year in July in Chicago.
Various American Association for Justice (AAJ) Scholarships are available to student members of the AAJ. Alia Herrera Memorial Scholarship: The Alia Herrera Memorial Scholarship, with an award amount of $3,000, is open to Law Student Members who are entering their second or third year of law school, or have the equivalent of one year to complete. The Richard D. Hailey Law Student Scholarship: AAJ's Minority Caucus awards up to six $1,000 scholarships to African American, Hispanic, Asian American, Native American, and Biracial Law Student Members who are entering their first, second, or third year of law school. Trial Advocacy Scholarship: Open to all AAJ Law Student Members who are entering their second and third year of law school, this $2,500 scholarship is awarded to the applicant who best demonstrates the following: commitment to AAJ and its mission; a desire to represent victims; interest and skill in trial advocacy; and financial need. The DRI Law Student Diversity Scholarship Program is open to incoming second and third-year African American, Hispanic, Asian and Native American students. The goal of these scholarships is to provide financial assistance to two worthy law students from ABA accredited law schools in order to promote, in a tangible way, the DRI Diversity Statement of Principle. Incoming second-and third-year female law students are also eligible, regardless of race or ethnicity. Incoming second-and third-year law students who also come from backgrounds that would add to the cause of diversity, regardless of race or gender are eligible to apply. To qualify for this scholarship, candidates must be full-time students. Evening students also qualify for consideration if they have completed one-third or more of the total credit hours required for a degree by the applicant's law school. The Samuel J. Goldstein, Esquire, Scholarship Fund of The Pittsburgh Foundation was created to benefit students who are planning to attend or already attend law school in Pennsylvania. The following criteria will apply: 1. Be from Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Washington or Westmoreland counties and plan to attend or already attend an accredited law school in Pennsylvania. 2. Demonstrate financial need. 3. Show academic promise. 4. Be of the Jewish faith. 5. Maintain good grades but need not be in the top 10% of their class academically. 6. Submit an essay discussing why you are deserving of this scholarship. 7. Complete a standard admissions application and a financial aid application for the law school the applicant plans to attend or is attending. The scholarship shall be a two year scholarship. The students selected to receive this scholarship for the first year at a Pennsylvania law school are eligible to receive this scholarship for a second year if they continue to be enrolled in a Pennsylvania law school and maintain a 2.5 or equivalent grade point average. If any student selected for this scholarship ceases to attend a Pennsylvania law school or fails to maintain a 2.5 or equivalent grade point average, another scholarship recipient shall be selected for the award. Final selection of the scholarship winners will be decided (subject to the approval of the Board of Directors of The Pittsburgh Foundation) by a Scholarship Advisory Committee. No member of the Advisory Committee, or his or her immediate family, is eligible for scholarship assistance during his or her tenure on the Advisory Committee. The Pittsburgh Foundation shall notify the chosen scholarship recipient(s) of its decision. The scholarship payment will be made after The Pittsburgh Foundation’s June Board Meeting, and after the student verifies the school he she will be attending. The Energy & Mineral Law Foundation was established in 1980 to provide a forum for the intellectually honest examination of the legal issues related to the development and use of natural resources. The Energy & Mineral Law Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization, funded primarily through membership dues and revenues from educational programs. Scholarships are funded through membership dues, and earnings from special memorial scholarships. Eligibility. Law school students for the current academic year are eligible to receive scholarships. Field of Study. Law students must demonstrate an interest in the study of natural resources, energy or mineral law. Law Schools. The scholarship can only be used in connection with a degree program sponsored by a law school which is a Member of the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation. Amount of Scholarships. Scholarship awards generally ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 will be awarded to defray academic expenses for the current school year. Criteria for Selection. The following criteria will be used to determine the recipients of the scholarships: Applications should include two letters of recommendation with at least one from a law school dean, faculty member, or member of the legal profession. Louis Little Attorneys' Memorial Fund Louis Little was a well-known Allegheny County criminal lawyer. Upon his death in 1958, Mr. Little made a substantial bequest to the Allegheny County Bar Association. Through this gift, the ACBA established the Louis Little Attorneys' Memorial Fund to provide low interest loans to lawyers in need and law school students. At the request of the ACBA and the Louis Little Attorneys' Memorial Fund Committee, the Fund was transferred to the bar foundation, which will administer the Fund to provide low interest loans to lawyers and law school students. Since it was transferred to the foundation in 2001, the Louis Little Attorneys' Memorial Fund has provided over $100,000 in low-interest loans to deserving law school students. Honorable Carol Los Mansmann Memorial Fund The Honorable Carol Los Mansman was the first woman appointed to the U.S. District Court for the Third Circuit, an associate professor of law at Duquesne University Law School, and an outstanding member of the Allegheny County Bar Association and Pittsburgh's legal community. Judge Mansmann died suddenly on March 9, 2002. Following her death, her family, friends, fellow lawyers, and the Women in the Law Committee of the Allegheny County Bar Association desired to honor her memory by establishing the Honorable Carol Los Mansmann Memorial Fund within the Allegheny County Bar Foundation. Each year, the fund shall award a cash scholarship to one or more women law students attending Duquesne University School of Law who demonstrate a potential for leadership and a commitment to the advancement of women. The scholarship shall be based upon the financial need of the student and shall be selected annually based on criteria established by the Honorable Carol Los Mansmann Memorial Fund Committee in conjunction with recommendations by the Dean and designated faculty of the Duquesne University Law School. The Pittsburgh Young Professionals Scholarship Fund of the Pittsburgh Foundation was created to provide career-minded individuals the opportunity to develop professionally, civically and socially within the Pittsburgh Region. In order to apply for this scholarship, candidates must: 1. Be a full-time undergraduate or a graduate student currently attending a four-year college or university in Allegheny County; 2. Be 21-years of age or older by September 1, 2011; 3. Have a grade point average of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale); 4. Have verifiable volunteer experience within the past two years; 5. Have membership and/or leadership experience in campus or professional organizations; 6. Complete an application and include a one-page essay explaining how you envision your involvement in the Pittsburgh community after graduation. The application deadline is Sunday, April 15, 2012. In 1978 the Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship Fund was established by Helen and Richard Fox and Friends to honor the memory of their son who, as a proud member of the Berks County Bar Association, served as a young attorney in the Public Defender's Office. The Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship Award of $3,000 is presented annually at the Berks County Bar Association Law Day Event. It is given to help fund a deserving Berks County, Pennsylvania, resident embarking on his or her second year at an accredited Law School. In June 2000, the Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship Fund was transferred to the Berks County Community Foundation to manage and administer. Eligible students can find an application at www.bccf.org. Complete applications must be submitted to Berks County Community Foundation between January 15 and April 1, 2012.

| The Greiner/Roof Memorial Law Scholarship was created in memory of the Honorable Paul B. Greiner and the Honorable Vernon D. Roof, past President Judges of the 59th Judicial District of Pennsylvania. This scholarship in their honor will be awarded to an applicant who has been accepted to or is in attendance of an accredited law school. The candidate must also maintain their primary residence in Elk or Cameron County, PA, and be a graduate of a high school located in Elk or Cameron County, PA. Acadeic standing and achievement, participation in extracurricular activities and general life experience will be considered. Additional information and application. | Ms. JD is proud to announce its 2012 Summer Public Interest Scholarships.
Winners will receive a $250 prize to support their continued commitment to public interest work. Women law students entering their second or third year at an accredited U.S. law school and working the summer of 2012 at least 35 hours per week for a minimum of 6 weeks at a government agency or nonprofit organization are eligible to apply. Unpaid judicial externs also qualify. Applications are due no later than March 31, 2012. Recipients will be notified no later than April 10, 2012. The Pennsylvania Bar Foundation is pleased to announce the opening of the 2011 James W. Stoudt Memorial Scholarship Program.
The James W. Stoudt Memorial Scholarship Program offers two types of scholarships: one general and one specifically designated for historically under-represented ethnic minority students (African-American; Hispanic American; and Native American). The total number of scholarships to be awarded in 2011 is four (two general; two minority). The amount of each award is $3,000.

Additionally, an essay of up to 500 words explaining how the applicant will make a contribution to society and the legal profession, a current resume, and up to two recommendations are also required.
The application deadline is December 2, 2011, and recipients will be selected prior to the end of the year by a committee comprised of members of the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation Board of Directors. No more than two scholarships will be awarded to students at any one law school.

Latham & Watkins is once again pleased to announce the Latham Diversity Scholars Program. Eligibility: To become a Latham Diversity Scholar, you must be enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school and intend to practice law in a major city of the United States. You must have successfully completed your first year of a full-time JD program, with an expected graduation date of spring 2013, and you may not be the recipient of a similar scholarship award from another law firm.
Award: Latham Diversity Scholars will receive a gift of a $10,000 non-renewable scholarship for their third year of law school (2012 – 2013). This scholarship is not contingent upon receiving or accepting an offer of employment at Latham & Watkins. We awarded four scholarships each in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011, and we anticipate naming six Latham Diversity Scholars in 2012. Application: To be considered for the Latham Diversity Scholars Program, please complete and submit an application form, resume, unofficial or official law school transcript and personal statement to Latham & Watkins. The application process is open to law students who meet the eligibility requirements stated above. Applications must be received by October 14, 2011. A selection panel of attorneys will evaluate all applications, considering such factors as academic achievement, work experience and overall commitment to diversity, and announce the scholarship recipients in the early spring of 2012. The Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania Legal Education Fund (“HBALEF”), a non-profit organization dedicated to the professional and educational advancement of Hispanics in the legal profession, awards scholarships each year to qualified law students throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Delaware Valley. In prior years, scholarships were awarded in the amount of one thousand six hundred and fifty dollars ($1,650.00). For the year 2011-2012, we expect to remain consistent with amounts awarded in prior years. The HBALEF hopes these funds will not only promote the success of Hispanic students, but also attract more Hispanic lawyers to practice in Pennsylvania. The scholarship is to be awarded to a deserving student with good academic credentials who is a resident of Washington County, Pennsylvania. The Westmoreland County Bar Association offers scholarships to Westmoreland County residents who will be first, second or third year law students during the 2011-2012 academic year.
The Wayne R. Donahue Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in a Pennsylvania law school and the Donald Laird Hankey Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in any law school.
