National Jurist ranks Law School as one of the Best for Bar Exam Prep
Duquesne Law School has been rated among the best in the nation for its bar exam preparation, according to the National Jurist magazine. In its February 2012 cover story, Who are Bar Exam's Biggest Stars?, the National Jurist ranked Duquesne 22nd out of approximately 200 ABA-approved law schools in bar exam preparation success. The magazine evaluated the bar pass rates for all ABA-approved law schools and compared their results with statewide averages to identify schools that outperform what their students' incoming LSAT scores would predict. Law School Dean, Professors Earn Highest Professional Rating
Dean Ken Gormley, along with Professors Nicholas P. Cafardi, Joseph Sabino Mistick, Jane Campbell Moriarty, Alfred S. Peláez and S. Michael Streib, all received the AV Preeminent (4.5-5.0) rating, which the company describes as a significant rating accomplishment and "a testament to the fact that a lawyer's peers rank him or her at the highest level of professional excellence." Appellate Moot Court Team Competes at Invitation-only National Competition
As finalists in the ABA Arbitration Regional Competition this fall, the Duquesne University Appellate Moot Court Board team of Stephen Guzzetti, Kate Lewis, Frank Stoy, and Christina Zanic earned one of only ten invitations to compete in the ABA Arbitration National Competition. The National Competition was held at the ABA Headquarters in Chicago, Illinois on January 20-21, 2012. Our team performed extremely well and defeated students from Stetson University College of Law before being narrowly edged by eventual champion Texas Tech University School of Law. Duquesne's team was coached by Professor Pelaez, Sarah Andrews, Keaton Carr, and Abbi Marusic.
Legal Research and Writing Program Ranked in the Top 10 NationallyFor the fourth consecutive year, the School of Law's legal research and writing program was ranked as one of the best in the nation, according to U.S. News and World Report. The magazine's most recent rankings issue places Duquesne's program in the top ten of all law schools on its Best Law Schools Specialty Rankings: Legal Writing List and ahead of more than 170 schools nationwide. |
Law Clinic receives favorable mention in Pittsburgh Post-GazetteThe Post-Gazette featured a prominent piece extolling the Law Clinic's work - under the supervision of Acting Director Tracey McCants Lewis - in assisting the NAACP and helping indigent citizens clear their criminal records in order to gain productive employment. Several days earlier, the Post-Gazette published a laudatory article recognizing the Law Clinic's role in assisting poor and elderly citizens in appealing their new property assessments, in conjunction with Professor Joseph Sabino Mistick's urban development clinic. |
