Computers Available at Gumberg Library
  • Over 100 computers are available in Gumberg Library. Many times during the semester, all library computers are in use. Please plan accordingly.
  • 23 desktop computers are available during library hours in the Library Reference area
  • 5 desktop computers are available during library hours in the Library Printer area
  • 41 desktop computers are available during library hours in the Library Classroom. Please note that computers may not be available during library classes or other instruction sessions.
  • 1 desktop computer at the Library Reference Desk is available for searching DuCat, the library's online catalog.
  • 4 computers are available in the Maureen P. Sullivan Curriculum Center.
  • 4 Macintosh computers specially equipped with software and hardware for music production and editing are available on the library's 5th floor.
  • 40 laptop computers circulate for use throughout the library. Laptops may be checked-out at the library's Circulation Desk.
  • All users who are not affiliated with Duquesne University must fill out a Guest User Form at the 4th floor Circulation Desk before using the computers.

Electrical Outlets / Bringing your own computing equipment
  • Because of limited computer availability and restrictions on installing / using software programs, Gumberg Library encourages users to bring their own portable computers to the library.
  • Throughout the library, electrical outlets are available for charging laptops and other devices. Outlets are available in quiet study areas on the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th floors of the library as well as in the group study areas on the 4th and 5th floors. The library group study rooms are all equipped with electrical outlets.
Printing and Scanning
  • In support of Duquesne University's "Green" initiatives, Gumberg Library asks students to print judiciously and to recycle wasted paper
  • 2 high-volume printers are available on the library's 4th floor. All library desktop computers may print to the high-volume printers.
  • The Macintosh computers on the 5th floor print to the 4th floor printers.
  • 2 printers are available on the library's 5th floor, in the Maureen P. Sullivan Curriculum Center.
  • 1 high-volume printer is available on the library's 4th floor electronic classroom.
  • Please note that no printing is available in Gumberg Library from non-Duquesne computers or from the library's laptops.
  • Scanners are located at  the 5th floor Macintosh cluster and in the Assistive Technology Room on the 4th floor.
Software Available at Gumberg Library
  • All library computers have Microsoft Office 2007 including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Access
  • Adobe CS3 software suite is available on the library's Reference Area computers through special cooperation with the Journalism and Multimedia Arts Department.
  • All library desktop computers on the library's 4th floor have IBM SPSS version 18
  • Special software is installed in the Maureen P. Sullivan Curriculum Center and in the Mary Jane Shultz Music Center.
Other Computer Labs on Campus
  • Other campus computing labs offer many library services including access to the library's research databases, online journals, and electronic reference service.
