If You Get the Flu

Call the University Health Service at 412.396.1650 to determine if flu testing or treatment is necessary.

For after-hours care, resident students should call the front desk of their Living Learning Center for assistance.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, most healthy people will recover from the flu without needing medical care. For symptom relief, take fever reducing medication (not aspirin), drink lots of tea, water or juice and get plenty of rest. Stay home from school or work for at least 24 hours after you are fever-free (without medication) to avoid infecting others.

Contact your own health care provider or the Health Service as soon as possible if you suspect you have the flu.

Seek emergency medical care if you develop the following symptoms: difficulty breathing or shortness of breath; pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen; sudden dizziness; confusion; severe or persistent vomiting; flu-like symptoms that improve but then return with fever and worsening cough.
