Recreation Advisory Board
CONSTITUTION ORGANIZATION “Recreation Advisory Board”
ARTICLE I: NAME –
The name of this organization shall be Recreation Advisory Board.
ARTICLE II: PURPOSE –
The purpose of this organization is to do the following: 1) to represent the voice of the campus participants to the recreation administration and visa versa; 2) to recommend changes and adoptions to regulations, procedures, and policies; 3) to advise administration on future developments and improvements; 4) to serve as channel to suggest programming ideas to the administration; and 5) to incorporate the recreation mission into all its work as a compliment to that of the university.
ARTICLE III: EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE –
The executive committee shall be headed by the two appointed Power Recreation Center staff members representing fitness and wellness, intramurals, and club sports. Each chair will head their respective committee; each committee shall elect from within it a recording secretary.
ARTICLE IV: MEMBERSHIP –
Membership of Recreation Advisory Board shall be open to one representative from the following organizations, whom shall serve for the duration of the term beginning each academic year:
Black Student Union, Commuter Council, Duquesne Program Council, Faculty Senate, Freshman Class Advisory Committee, Human Resources, Inter-Fraternity Council, International Student Organization, Pan-Hellenic Council, Power Recreation Center (two staff members), Residence Hall Association, Student Government Association, Student Health and Advisory Committee, two university employees at large, and three students at large, one of whom must be a graduate student.
Members shall be appointed by their respected organizations and must serve on one committee. Advisors shall appoint the five at large members as well as the Power Center representatives. Membership is limited to those who are in good academic standing with their respective organizations and have a minimum GPA of 2.0.
ARTICLE V: MEETINGS –
The board should meet no less than once per month during the academic year. A simple majority will constitute a quorum.
ARTICLE VI: VOTING –
Each member in good standing shall be allocated one vote, except for the chairperson (chairperson shall only vote in case of a tie).
ARTICLE VII: VACANCIES –
Vacancies shall be filled by the organizations represented on the board. Chairperson and at large vacancies shall be appointed by advisors.
ARTICLE VIII: ADVISORS –
Director of Recreation
Assistant Director of Recreation, Fitness and Wellness
Coordinator of Intramurals and Club Sports
They shall advise the Recreation Advisory Board and serve as the formal liaisons between the board and university.
ARTICLE IX: IMPEACHMENT OF OFFICERS –
A member of the committee can be removed by a 2/3 majority vote by the voting members. A member can be removed for any of the following reasons:
Failure to attend meetings and/or fulfill duties
ARTICLE X: AMENDMENTS –
Proposed amendments to this constitution require a 2/3 majority vote to be accepted.
All amendments must be submitted to the Assistant Vice President for Student Life who will then forward them to SGA for review and approval.
ARTICLE XI: INTERPRETATION –
The advisors are responsible for interpretation of the constitution.
A RTICLE XII: CONDUCT -
This organization will act in accordance with the Duquesne University Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct and with the Mission Statement of the University.
