Working Together to Help Students Succeed

We know that living on campus creates some new situations for students - and their parents!  The Office of Residence Life believes that students are adults who are capable of making responsible decisions and learning from their mistakes.  We view our relationship with parents as a partnershipParentsFire Safety aimed at helping students grow, learn and succeed.

At Duquesne, about 3,400 students from around the country and around the world live on campus in buildings called Living Learning Centers. (Find out why they’re so much more than just dorms!)

How Resident Assistants Aid Students

Each building has a highly trained staff of live-in Resident Directors, Graduate Assistants and Resident Assistants to support you around the clock. Their responsibilities include:

  • Assisting you with personal and academic concerns
  • Implementing policies
  • Facilitating programs
  • Making referrals
  • Sharing information about campus services and events.

Living on Campus

All freshmen and sophomores are required to live on campus, (see Campus Residency Policy.)

Encourage your student to:

  • Get involved!  The Duquesne experience is defined by what goes on in - and outside of - the classroom.
  • Keep an open mind.  The Duquesne community is a diverse one, with students from all over the country and the world.
  • Try to resolve problems on his or her own.  This is a time students can learn problem solving skills in a safe environment.
  • Seek help. The Residence Life staff in the building are available to guide them to the proper resources if necessary.  Duquesne is full of people and organizations aimed at helping students succeed.
