Date: Wednesday, Feb. 19
Place: Africa Room
Please join Spiritan Campus Ministry February 19, 2014 at Noon in the Africa Room for our 4th annual blanket making service event.
The blankets will be transported by the Duquesne students participating in the Cross Cultural Mission Experience to an area of WV known as the Southern Coalfields region. In many of these areas, it's 45 minutes to get to a Family Dollar, grocery store, or pharmacy. It is a full hour and a half to get to anything like a Wal-mart or Target. So to purchase a baby blanket, a family would need money for gas to travel that far, the time travel, a vehicle in good enough shape to make that trip, and then the money to purchase the item. It's more complicated than just going to the store and buying a blanket for $20 which is why it's such wonderful thing that Duquesne volunteers take their lunch hours to make these blankets. With substandard housing being the norm, many of these area homes are not well heated. It's not an exaggeration to say that a baby or small child will be warm because people from Duquesne took an hour to help make a blanket.
RSVP by Feb. 17 to Mary Beth Calorie at firstname.lastname@example.org or x6020 for a light luncheon and the blanket making event. Spiritan Campus Ministry will provide materials unless you would like to bring your own 2 yards of fleece (1 yard solid and 1 yard pattern). If so, please let Mary Beth know when you send the RSVP. In addition donations of diapers, baby wipes, baby formula or baby would be gratefully accepted. Hope you can join us!
