Career Discovery Treks

Duquesne University Career Discovery Treks, job shadow type experiences, are designed to provide small groups of 5-15 students, from varying majors and interests, with the chance to visit your workplace. This opportunity allows our students to not only engage with your company or organization, but to plant the seeds for a potential professional relationship.

A typical Career Discovery Trek takes place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and may include:

  • A general information session about your company or organization
  • Discussion panels led by upper management to entry-level positions, including discussions by Duquesne alumni (if possible) or short individual presentations
  • A tour of your work environment or one-on-one interactions
  • Workshops and skill-building activities
  • Job and internship advice for students
Sample Agenda

9 - 9:30 a.m.        Welcome and Introduction; Company history and overview

9:30 - 10:15 a.m  Panel Presentations: Department specific experiences

10:15-10:45 a.m. Activity: Resume review, mock interview or professional development

10:45 - 11 a.m.    Closing remarks, goals for the future, conclusion

Participating companies and organizations

You will be asked to indicate:

  • What time period you prefer: morning or afternoon
  • Your preference for major and student status (freshman, sophomore, junior or senior)
  • The number of students you can comfortably accommodate
  • Dress code requirements
  • If your company will provide a snack or lunch for students
  • Prior to the confirmed Career Discovery Trek, submit an agenda
  • Provide a contact person
