Safety Tips

  • Never walk alone at night. Follow your gut.

  • Walk in well-lit areas.

  • Wear light colored clothing at night.

  • Avoid alleys.

  • Don't leave headphones or earbuds in while walking.

  • Never leave valuables in your car.

  • Never give out your personal or financial information to strangers.

  • Know where the emergency "blue-light" telephones are located on campus.

  • Be aware of your surroundings.

  • Let someone know where you are going, your expected arrival time and the route you expect to take to reach your destination.

  • Introduce yourself to your neighbors and exchange contact information. Participate in neighborhood Block Watches. By creating a close knit community, you can help inform each other of suspicious activity in your neighborhood.

  • Take part in a crime prevention program offered by the Crime Prevention Unit of Duquesne's Department of Public Safety.
