Video Tips

Share a video about the Duquesne Day of Giving or why you support Duquesne

A short, sincere video shot on your smart phone and shared on social media is the most effective way to promote the Duquesne Day of Giving. If you create a video, please tag it with #DUQDayofGiving and notify David Jakielo, A'05, GA'10, assistant director of annual giving, so we can share the video with Duquesne University alumni and friends.

What makes a great video?

The Message: The goal of the video is to encourage your fellow alumni, friends and family to make a gift to Duquesne University. For the video to be effective, there are three key points that must be mentioned:

  1. Ask the viewer to support Duquesne University and donate on the Duquesne Day of Giving
  2. State that the Duquesne Day of Giving date is Tuesday, February 7, 2017.
  3. Encourage people to learn more by visiting www.duq.edu/dayofgiving.

Make it Personal: In addition to including those three key points, make sure to also include your personal message about why you want people to support Duquesne University on this day. What difference has Duquesne made to your life? What school, program or organization would you like your viewer to designate their gift to and why?

The Location: If you live in Pittsburgh - take the photo or shoot the video at an area of campus that means the most to you or at a famous Pittsburgh landmark. If you live outside of Pittsburgh - the Duquesne Day of Giving is a worldwide event, so try to shoot the video at a famous location unique to your area. From Duquesne's Italian Campus to Times Square in New York City, let's see how far we can spread the Duquesne Day of Giving.

The Quality: High-tech equipment is NOT needed! Your phone's camera is all you need, but please keep these tips in mind to help improve the quality of your video. Keep the video under one minute and film landscape (horizontal) and not portrait (vertical) style.
