Henry Koren, C.S.Sp. Chair in Scholarly Excellence
Partha Basu, Ph.D.
Dr. Partha Basu, Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences, is the second holder of the Henry Koren, C.S.Sp., Chair in Scholarly Excellence. The Chair was established in 2010 and was previously held by Dr. Ronald Arnett of the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts (2010-2015).
Professor Basu's research interests are in the broad area of bioinorganic chemistry that combines design and synthesis of new molecules, detailed spectroscopic and kinetic analyses of the compounds, protein expression and purification, as well as mass spectrometry. Since joining Duquesne Professor Basu has developed new synthetic strategies for dendrimers to metal sulfur compounds to new sensors. He has nearly 90 peer reviewed publications, and two patents.
The Rev. Henry J. Koren, C.S.Sp., was head of Duquesne University’s Department of Philosophy in the early 1950s. He was largely responsible for making Duquesne an international center for phenomenological existentialism. He also headed the theology department and the Duquesne University Press for a time.
