Admission Requirements

Applicants must have earned a bachelor's degree, master's degree, a college-level conservatory diploma or their foreign equivalent in music.

Time Limitations

Artist Diploma students will be enrolled full time for four consecutive semesters or two academic years of study.

Transfer of Credits

The program consists of 30 credits taken at Duquesne University. No credits may be transferred from any other institution.

The following items constitute a complete application:

  1. Completed and signed application form.
  2. Check or money order for $50 non-refundable application fee, made payable to Duquesne University.
  3. Three letters of recommendation from outstanding professionals familiar with the applicant's performance. Send letters to the Director of Music Admissions (see below).
  4. Official undergraduate and master's transcripts, in English, covering all work taken or in progress at each college, conservatory and university attended. Please ask the registrar of each college or university to send official transcripts to the Director of Music Admissions (see below).
  5. Solo repertory list.
  6. Evidence of performing experience, such as programs, reviews, etc.
  7. Audition: DVDs, CDs and videotapes may be acceptable for a preliminary audition, although applicants should expect to audition at the University before a faculty panel.
  8. Affidavit, in English, from a financial institution documenting the applicant's ability to finance their entire education and living expenses while in the United States. If governments or parents supply financial support, an affidavit certifying the amount to be furnished. Currency must be translated into United States dollars.

All application materials must be completed and received by the School of Music no later than one month prior to the beginning of the term in which the applicant anticipates commencing graduate work. An interview may be required to further ascertain the applicant’s ability.  All official documents which are accepted toward admission become the property of the University.
