Book Edited By Duquesne Professors Analyzes the Relationship Between Businesses and Society
The first volume in an annual scholarly book series by Duquesne University business faculty has just been released. Sponsored by the International Association for Business and Society (IABS) and supported by the Eugene P. Beard Faculty Resource Fund in Business Ethics, the Business and Society 360 series comprises a compilation of editorially reviewed chapters that complement the academic journals distributed by the IABS.
Stakeholder Management attempts to provide comprehensive insight into one of the most fundamental scholarly areas within the larger business and society field, which focuses on the intersection between business organizations, society and how they affect each other by their actions.
Co-editors for the series are Dr. David Wasieleski, chair of the management and marketing department and professor of business ethics, and Dr. James Weber, professor of business ethics and management.
"We believe that this book series makes an important contribution to the business and society field for its scholars, ranging from graduate students to emerging scholars to established senior professors," said Weber.
Weber describes stakeholder management as the notion that a business organization has the responsibility to manage relationships to create value for its stakeholders as members of society.
"The timing of our '360-degree' approach for a book is perfect for the business and society domain," said Wasieleski. "The field is mature enough now that it is appropriate to reflect back on the important work that has been done and assess what it means for research today and going forward."
Wasieleski and Weber were both selected by the IABS to co-edit the series, based on their reputations as well-known scholars and educators.
"This book series draws on our faculty expertise and will shape the entire business and society field in important ways for many years to come," said Dr. Dean McFarlin, dean of the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business. "I'm ecstatic that our school is the home of this new book series, something that cements our leadership in an area that aligns perfectly with Duquesne's Spiritan mission and values."
The second volume of the Business and Society 360 series focuses on corporate social responsibility and will be published in the spring of 2018.
