CD Release Party Slated for Bill Purse’s Sonic Art
A release party will be held for Bill Purse’s new music CD, Sonic Art.
A professor and chair of the music technology program and guitar department at Duquesne’s Mary Pappert School of Music, Purse composed 13 of the CD’s 14 tracks.
“Bill Purse has released an album of varied musical textures…(and) is a fine guitarist, composer, orchestrator and studio technician,” wrote Dr. Joe Barth in his review the CD for Just Jazz Guitar. “All four of these aspects of his artistry are woven together in this album.”
Purse collaborated with many of his colleagues from the Pappert School on Sonic Art, including Sean Jones, jazz trumpeter and assistant professor of jazz studies; Lynn Purse, keyboardist and associate professor of music technology; Tom Kikta, classical guitarist and assistant professor of music technology; Mike Tomaro, saxophone and director of jazz studies; and Edward Kocher, trombonist and dean of the music school.
Purse will perform with several guests at the Sonic Art CD release party, including Jones, Kikta, Tomaro, Lynn Purse, David Cutler, Billy Kuhn and others.
