CLE Examines, Marks 40th Anniversary of Pa. Rules of Appellate Procedure
Duquesne University School of Law, in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Appellate Court Procedural Rules Committee, is hosting a conference to mark the 40th anniversary of the Pennsylvania Rules of Appellate Procedure.
Pennsylvania Rules of Appellate Procedure: Appreciating the Past and Anticipating the Future will be held during the Pennsylvania Supreme Court's planned session in Pittsburgh, with a number of justices and appellate judges expected to attend.
The conference also offers five hours of Continuing Legal Education and includes speakers from the bench, bar and academia, who will discuss the history and the future of the rules and appellate practice in Pennsylvania and elsewhere.
Luncheon speaker Bryan A. Garner, who will address the future of appellate practice, has written more than 20 books on legal writing and language in general. He is editor in chief of Black's Law Dictionary, author of Garner's Modern American Usage, and he co-authored Reading of Law: The Interpretation of Legal Texts with U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
The conference speakers and moderators tentatively include Judge D. Brooks Smith of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and Chief Justice Thomas G.
