Duquesne Receives $650,000 PNC Foundation Grant
Duquesne University has received a $650,000 grant from The PNC Financial Services Group through The PNC Foundation. The funds will be used by to enhance Duquesne’s early childhood education programs, advancing the goals of PNC Grow Up Great, the company’s 10-year, $100 million investment in school readiness for children from birth to age five.
"This generous commitment celebrates the long-standing partnership between Duquesne University and PNC,” said Duquesne President Charles J. Dougherty. “We are thankful for the Foundation's support and pleased to join the company and its employees in their efforts emphasizing the importance of school readiness to a child's future through PNC Grow Up Great."
The grant will be used to enhance and expand early childhood initiatives in Duquesne’s School of Education, which includes extensive field-based coursework at local school districts, child development facilities and Head Start centers as part of its comprehensive undergraduate and graduate degree programs in early childhood education. PNC’s funding will also support the speech-language pathology department in Duquesne’s John G. Rangos, Sr. School of Health Sciences, which operates a clinic in which faculty and students diagnose and treat young children with communication disorders.

The PNC Foundation grant combined with PNC sponsorships, contributions from individual PNC employees and matching gifts made by the Foundation will total more than $800,000 of current support for Duquesne University.
In recognition of the grant and its long-standing relationship with PNC, Duquesne will be naming the entrance of its Student Union the “PNC Atrium.”

PNC Grow Up Great is the PNC Financial Services Group’s $100 million, 10-year investment in school readiness.
