Eighty Four Native Receives Prestigious Ethics Award from Duquesne University
Derek E. Jones, a native of Eighty Four, recently received the 2008 Eugene P. Beard Award for Leadership in Ethics at Duquesne University.
The award is presented to the graduating senior who best exemplifies Duquesne University’s commitment to moral and spiritual values through outstanding leadership in the area of ethics at the University, in community service or family life. Jones received a $2,500 unrestricted gift as part of the Beard Award.
A past member of the Student Government Association at Duquesne, Jones was an accounting and legal studies major in the A.J. Palumbo School of Business Administration. As a student at the University, he was a member of Commuter Council, the Duquesne Program Council, Debate Team, SPIRIT Leadership Program, the Palumbo School of Business Dean’s Student Advisory Committee, Judicial Affairs Hearing Board, Freshman Class Advisory Committee, the Pre-Law Society and Freshman Orientation staff.
