Final ‘Rice on the Road’ Community Excursions Visit August Wilson’s Hill District and Hazelwood
Opportunity to learn about August Wilson's Hill District and Educational Justice in the Hazelwood Context will be provided by the final two excursions of Duquesne University's Monsignor Owen Rice Lecture Series.
The August Wilson's Hill District discussion will be held on Thursday, March 21, at 4 p.m. in the August Wilson Room at the Carnegie Library, 2177 Centre Ave., in the Hill District. A bus tour that afternoon featuring locations in Wilson's life and plays, illuminating the spirit of the Hill as Wilson experienced and envisioned it, has filled.
Educational Justice in the Hazelwood Context will be presented on Friday, March 22, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Center of Life, 161 Hazelwood Ave. A brief tour of Hazelwood followed by a panel discussion will explore how the long-term absence of a neighborhood school and a lack of educational opportunities have affected the Hazelwood community. This presentation is co-sponsored by the UCEA Center for Educational Leadership and Social Justice, which is based at Duquesne.
Duquesne's Center for Catholic Intellectual Tradition developed the Rice on the Road lecture series to improve understanding of social justice issues in partner communities, Hazelwood and the Hill District, and to foster a dialogue among community partners, residents and local leaders with University staff, faculty and students.
The series will close with a dialogue at noon on Tuesday, April 2, in the Africa Room of the Duquesne Union.
All events are free and open to the public. For additional information or to register, visit the Center for the Catholic Intellectual Tradition's website or call 412.396.1595.
