Institute Namesake Honored With Distinguished Forensic Scientist Award
Dr. Cyril H. Wecht will receive the Distinguished Forensic Scientist Award from the Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science at the University of New Haven on Monday, Sept. 27. The namesake of Duquesne’s Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law, Wecht chairs the institute’s advisory board.
The Distinguished Forensic Scientist Award will be presented to Wecht at the 19th Annual Markle Symposium, where he will address Forensic Scientific Investigation of Police Involved Deaths.
“Dr. Wecht’s professional and scholarly contributions for almost a half-century are truly outstanding,” said Dr. Henry C. Lee, an internationally renowned criminalist. “As an active forensic pathologist and medical-legal consultant, former coroner and medical examiner, teacher and lecturer, author and editor, he has played a significant role in modern day forensic science and legal medicine. We are pleased to recognize all of these accomplishments by presenting this Distinguished Forensic Scientist Award to Dr. Wecht.”
A past president of both the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and the American College of Legal Medicine, Wecht is an adjunct professor in Duquesne’s Schools of Law, Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
