Law School Professor Publishes Book

Bruce Antkowiak, assistant professor of law at Duquesne University, has recently been published by The Pennsylvania Bar Institute as principal author and editor of Pennsylvania Criminal Procedure: Elements, Analysis, Application

The book is a result of two years of collaboration by Antkowiak and various law students, who have put forth a work unique to its topic. A foreword by Justice Cynthia Baldwin of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court appears, praising the practical scholarship of the discourse. A subsequent edition of the work is already underway, with the addition of new subjects and chapters.

Antkowiak served as an Assistant United States Attorney from 1977 until 1983 for the Western District of Pennsylvania, where he was Chief of the Narcotics and Organized Crime Section. His later work as a private attorney centered upon criminal defense in state and federal courts. His special appointments include Deputy Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and as counsel for the Judicial Conduct Board.

Before becoming a full-time faculty member at Duquesne in 2002, he served as an adjunct professor at St. Vincent College and at Duquesne School of Law. His scholarly articles have been published in the law reviews of Creighton, Suffolk, New England, Duquesne and Widener Schools of Law, as well as in the Pennsylvania Bar Quarterly.

A 1977 graduate of Harvard Law School, where he was the recipient of the Felix Frankfurter Scholarship, Antkowiak graduated first in his class at St. Vincent College, receiving a B.A. in Political Science in 1974.  The college honored him with a 2002 Alumnus of Distinction Award.

Antkowiak, 54, resides in the Banksville section of Pittsburgh.
