National Hispanic Heritage Month to Be Celebrated at Duquesne with ‘Latinos Beyond the Reel’ Screening

In recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month, a special screening of Latinos Beyond the Reel: Challenging a Media Stereotype will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. in Room 104 of Duquesne University's College Hall.

The documentary by Miguel Picker and Chyng Sun follows the cinematic portrayal of Latin Americans, encompassing stereotypes, images and thought-provoking segments that challenge the media's depiction of Latin American men and women as one-dimensional characters.

A brief presentation and discussion will immediately follow the screening.

The screening is sponsored by Duquesne's Departments of Modern Languages and Literatures, History and Sociology, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and the Dean's Office of the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 412.396.6415.
