Riverview Senior Receives Mind, Heart and Spirit Award

Duquesne University has named Christine M. Ostrowski as a recipient of the Mind, Heart and Spirit Award, which acknowledges and promotes outstanding student athletes from local high schools.Ostrowski, a senior from Riverview Junior-Senior High School, is recognized for academics in the classroom, community service and exuding sportsmanship on the course and at the track. Ranked first out of 104 seniors, Ostrowski maintains highest honors.

Ostrowski’s academic accomplishments include scoring a perfect 1600 on the Math and Verbal section of the SAT, a perfect 800 on the SAT Level 2 Math Subject Test and attending the Harvard Summer School Program. She is the captain of the cross-country team and a member of the track team, running the 1600- and 3200-meter races and the 4x800-meter relay. Ostrowski recently helped lead her track team to the state competition.

She also is dedicated to community causes via Key Club, tutoring several younger students and recently helping a church in Russia raise money to purchase a truck. She then spent most of her summer in Russia helping the church and was present for the truck’s delivery.

A native of Oakmont, Christine is the daughter of Robert and Palma Ostrowski.

The Mind, Heart and Spirit Award is announced at Steelers home games at Heinz Field. Seven honorees will be chosen and receive prizes provided by Duquesne University and the Pittsburgh Steelers Radio Network. One grand-prize winner selected from among the seven honorees will receive a $26,000 Duquesne University scholarship and on-field recognition by a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers organization. The Mind, Heart and Spirit Award is sponsored by Duquesne University, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Steelers Radio Network.
