United Way Honors Duquesne for Outstanding Campaign Performance
The United Way of Allegheny County recognized Duquesne University at its May 25 campaign celebration as a 2009 Outstanding Campaign Performance Award winner.
The award is granted to companies that conducted a model United Way campaign that produced significant increases in total dollars raised, dollars raised for the Impact Fund and for employee participation.
Duquesne’s campaign, which ran from October to November 2009, raised a total of $87,747. The total was approximately 10 percent more than the campus goal and marked a 23 percent increase in giving from the 2008 campaign.
“Duquesne employees really came through this year to help those in our community most affected by the bad economy,” said Dr. Laverna Saunders, University librarian and Duquesne’s employee campaign manager for the United Way. “This was also our first year to ‘green up’ the campaign with online pledging. We had 71 percent participation, which was phenomenal.”
Founded in 1878, Duquesne is consistently ranked among the nation's top Catholic universities for its award-winning faculty and tradition of academic excellence. Duquesne, a campus of nearly 9,500 graduate and undergraduate students, has been nationally recognized for its academic programs, community service and commitment to sustainability.
