Zappala, Fellow D.A.s to Address ‘Prosecution and Public Policy’

The Duquesne University School of Law will mark the 100th anniversary of the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association with a special panel discussion featuring seven district attorneys and a Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice, who will explore the public service role and duties of the modern-day prosecutor.

Prosecution and Public Policy In the 21st Century, co-sponsored by the Allegheny County Bar Association Criminal Litigation Section, will be held on Monday, Feb. 4, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Duquesne University Power Center Ballroom. A reception will immediately follow.

The Hon. J. Michael Eakin of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court will moderate the panel discussion, which will include:

  • Hon. Risa Vetri Ferman, Montgomery County District Attorney
  • Hon. Richard A. Goldinger, Butler County District Attorney
  • Hon. Edward M. Marsico, Jr., Dauphin County District Attorney
  • Hon. Francis J. Schultz, Crawford County District Attorney
  • Hon. Eugene A. Vittone, Washington County District Attorney
  • Hon. Shawn C. Wagner, Adams County District Attorney and president of the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association
  • Hon. Stephen A. Zappala, Jr., Allegheny County District Attorney.

Topics may include specialty courts, mandatory sentences, alternative sentencing, juvenile offenders and D.A.s in the policy-making process, among others.

"It is a true honor for the law school to host this special program. Our Commonwealth has a long, rich tradition of producing preeminent district attorneys, many of whom have played leading roles on the national legal scene," said Duquesne Law Dean Ken Gormley. "We're especially proud that Duquesne's School of Law has emphasized the importance of public service since its formation and can claim dozens of prominent district attorneys among its own graduates."

The Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Board has approved the panel discussion for one (1) hour of substantive law, practice and procedure CLE credit. The event is free and open to the legal community, but registration is required. Call 412.396.2462, email derdac@duq.edu or visit www.duq.edu/law.
