IV Sedation
Upon successful completion, this course will prepare the practicing dentist and staff to safely administer IV moderate sedation in the dental office. The course meets or exceeds the “ADA Guidelines for Teaching of Pain Control and Sedation to Dentists and Dental Students”
IV sedation is a valuable tool for dentists and their patients. A large segment of the population avoids dental treatment because of fear and anxiety. These patients usually require extensive treatment plans that include basic restorative and cosmetic dentistry, surgery, dental implants and other therapeutic modalities. IV sedation allow these patients to be treat in a comfortable, stress free environment that is also very cost and time effective.
The population of the United States and Canada is aging. As a result, the typical dental patient is older and often times has an extensive, complex health history. This course will train the dentist and his staff to evaluate and make treatment plan modifications to treat these patients safely and effectively in a relaxed environment.
To date over 100 dentists have been trained to administer IV sedation through the program here at Duquesne University. The program has garnered national recognition because of its didactic and clinical excellence. Our program excels because of the fact that our participants have access to more clinical “hands on” patient experience than any other program currently available.
