Research, Publications and Service
Dr. Conti has published ethnographies of recruitment, socialization, masculinity and ethics training in policing as well as an analysis of the social networks that develop within recruit cohorts. These articles have appeared in Policing & Society, Journal of Contemporary Ethnography, Police Practice & Research, and Social Networks. Currently, he is examining recruitment into social movements as well as the emergence of trust and the role of humor in police academy training.
Policy reflects the character of a society and nowhere is that more dramatically illustrated than within the criminal justice system. This is the arena where a culture formally defines what is, and is not, acceptable within it. Given the gravity of this delineation, it is essential that policies and their consequences be thoroughly evaluated and constantly reevaluated. My own area of interest is contemporary policing and its impact on communities and officers.
