Research, Publications and Service

Most of Dr. Rubin's publications have centered around the political thinking of Aristotle and Xenophon. She has recently been working on an article on Artistotle's observations and arguments concerning the relationship between men and women. Over the next few years, she intends to publish a book on the parallels between Aristotle's account of the best political regime and the political thinking of the American founders.

Dr. Rubin has served as the Associate Director of the Society for Greek Political Thought since 1991 and the Director since 2007, and on the editorial board of Polis, a journal of Greek political thought, since 1997. She has been a member of the editorial board of Interpretation, a journal of political philosophy, since 1984.

Statement

My interests in American government concentrate around two foci: (1) the enduring influence of the fundamental institutions of American government (the constitutional separation of powers, federalism, and interest-group competition) upon the operation of the government today and (2) the ethical impulses and goals behind political decision-making and public policies.
