Duquesne University
Seal Installed
The
Duquesne University Seal was installed on
the campus side of the Forbes Avenue skywalk
tower in December, further establishing the
University’s
identity and pride in the construction of
the new multi-purpose recreation center.
It
was also announced that the eight-story-high
steel-and-glass skywalk over Forbes Avenue
will be named in honor of Frank and Florence
Sklar, who recently committed to funding
its construction. The amount of this significant
gift to the capital campaign will not be
disclosed.
Although not Duquesne alumni, the Sklars
are longtime leaders in the Pittsburgh business
and philanthropic communities, active in
the Amen Corner, Syria Temple Shriners and
Variety Children’s Charity, among others,
and benefactors of Duquesne and several other
local universities.
Frank Sklar founded Camera
Exchange Inc. and the Foto Hut film processing
chain. Fifteen years ago he funded a low-vision
reading machine for the Gumberg Library.
More recently, he and Florence have built
a close relationship with Duquesne President
Charles J. Dougherty.
The Frank and Florence
Sklar Skywalk connects the upper campus
and Forbes Parking Garage with the new multi-purpose
recreation center. The dedication ceremony took place on Sept. 28, 2007.
