Medical School Affiliations
Temple University School of Medicine*
Two separate programs provide some eligible students in the PMPP with early assurance of admission to the Temple University School of Medicine.
Early Assurance Program
Students may initiate the application process to this program in their sophomore year. To be considered, students must be in good standing at the beginning of their junior year, have completed most of the Pre-Medical Core Curriculum, and have achieved a GPA of 3.5 overall and in math/science. Conditional acceptance is granted to qualified students during their junior year at Duquesne.
Duquesne Medical Scholars Program (DMSP)
The DMSP offers outstanding high-school seniors the opportunity to gain provisional acceptance into the Temple University School of Medicine. Students who complete the program requirements upon graduation from Duquesne University will spend their first two years of medical school at the main campus of the Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. The third and fourth years will be spent at Temple's Clinical Campus at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Incoming freshman with SAT scores of 1350 or higher, at one sitting, in the math and verbal sections (no single score below 600, this includes the new writing section) or a minimum composite ACT score of 31 are eligible to apply to this program in advance of matriculation. Qualified candidates will first be interviewed by the PMPP and then by members of the Admissions Committee from Temple School of Medicine. Students must indicate their interest in the program by checking the DMSP code on the Duquesne University Admissions application.
A completed Duquesne application with all supporting materials must be received by November 15.
Admission into this program requires a two-step interview process:
1. The first interview is with the Pre-Medical Professions Program office at Duquesne University. Interviews typically take place in the month of January.
2. Upon completion of the first interview, the applicant's information will be sent to the Office of Admissions of Temple University School of Medicine. If selected, the second interview will be conducted by members of the admissions committee from Temple School of Medicine at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital Clinical Campus in Pittsburgh typically in March.
Acceptance into the program is decided by Temple School of Medicine. Once the student is accepted, he or she gains conditional acceptance to Temple University School of Medicine and must successfully complete all the DMSP requirements. Please note, acceptance into this program has no effect on the student's admission status with Duquesne University.
Final Acceptance Into Medical School
In order to maintain the seat at Temple, the DMSP student must meet the following criteria:
1. The minimum undergraduate cumulative and science (biology, chemistry, mathemathics and physics) grade point average (G.P.A.) at Duquesne University is 3.5 for the first three years with no grade less than a C (2.0).
2. The minimum (non-cumulative) G.P.A. for the fourth undergraduate academic year at DU must be at least 3.0 with no grade less than C (2.0).
3. The MCAT must be taken before matriculation to medical school. The minimum acceptable MCAT score is a total of 30, with no score than eight (8) on the sub-sections.
4. Students must receive a degree from Duquesne University in a specified major.
Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM)*
4+4 Program
This program is designed for high school seniors who have acquired knowledge of the osteopathic philosophy and medical profession.
Based upon their high school GPA, SAT scores, personal statement, a letter of recommendation from a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, and an interview at Duquesne University, the students will be admitted to Duquesne University with the intention of matriculating to LECOM directly after the complete their degree at Duquesne. Students should have a minimum SAT of 1170 or ACT of 26 along with a minimum high school GPA of 3.5.
While at Duquesne students can choose to major in the field of their choice but must complete the Pre-Medical Core Curriculum, maintain a 3.4 cumulative grade point average, a 3.2 science grade point average and achieve a minimum score of 24 on the MCAT with no section less than 7.
