Research in Action
The Duquesne difference in research is that each faculty member is expected to be a great teacher as well as an outstanding scholar. But, driven by their commitment to add to the world’s collective knowledge, much of Duquesne’s research is intended to have impact in communities near the University as well as around the world, like:
- Fostering exchanges with energy extractors and environmentalists across the U.S. and Ghana
- Improving health care in Côte d’Ivoire
- Monitoring local environments
- Promoting care of the disabled in Africa
- Redesigning the professional education doctoral program, with a pilot at Duquesne to serve as a nationwide model
- Establishing professional development for health care providers in Poland and Tanzania.
- Collecting oral histories
- Examining corporate sustainability challenges
- Developing new anti-tumor cancer drugs that are not toxic to patients and other pioneering treatments
Duquesne's 40 interdisciplinary centers and institutes include:
- The Institute for Energy and the Environment
- The Center for Green Industries and Sustainable Business Growth
- The Small Business Development Center
- The Center for Healthcare Ethics
- The Beard Institute, which focuses on sustainability in finances, human capital and environmental areas
- The Chronic Pain Consortium, an interdisciplinary collaborative to tackle these persistent health concerns.
