Concentrates on collaboration in the planning, implementation and evaluation of school programs. Special emphasis is place on developing skills for interdisciplinary team building, collaborative analysis of schedules and facilities to facilitate program implementation, construction and use of alternative assessments and evaluations across subject areas.

GFDE 504

Statistics in Behavioral Research
Skills necessary for critical consumption of quantitative research in the behavioral sciences are emphasized. The major goals are to understand and interpret the statistical analyses used to describe distributions and test hypotheses.

Curriculum Development
The nature of curriculum; philosophical conflicts and historical perspective; developing goals and objectives; instructional modes and the learner and curriculum mapping.

Advanced Curriculum
Curriculum research; needs assessment; curriculum management; implementation; analysis of test data; curriculum models.

Supervision
Principles of supervision; supervision theory; models; techniques of supervision; philosophical conflicts; teacher evaluation schemes; and research on supervision.

2. Supervision Component

GADS 559

Supervision Practicum
This course should be the last in the sequence before applying for certification. It requires on-the-job experiences which are developed in consultation with the University advisor and the field-site mentor(s). Group seminars are concurrently scheduled during the practicum semester.

GADS 573

Orientation to School Administration and Supervision
Orientation to the structure and the processes of the Administration and Supervision programs; assessments of personal characteristics required in the PDE standards; writing samples; problem solving; review of internal and external resources available to students; and school leadership.

GADS 574

Pupil Personnel
Examination of the regulations and mandates from PDE that involve children in schools, including such issues as special education, child abuse, student assistance programs, community agencies, and pupil personnel services in Pennsylvania schools.

Middle Level School Practices and Organization
A course for the middle school educator and the practitioner seeking explanations and alternatives for schools in the middle level. Covers administration, organization, curriculum, instruction, leadership roles, staff development, and evaluation.

GADS 671

Elementary School Administration and Management
Organizational management applied to educational leadership; principles, research, and operational developments affecting the work of administrative personnel in the elementary school.

GADS 675

Secondary School Administration and Management
Relates administrative theories and practical techniques for secondary administrators. The course is problem-oriented with emphasis on community relations, curriculum and instructional planning, decision making, staff development, student relations, scheduling practices, and the activities program.

GADS 681

School Law
Principal provisions in school law affecting teachers, principals, and superintendents; constitutional, statutory, ruling case and common law bases for public education interpretations; legal procedures with emphasis on Pennsylvania school law.

GADS 682

School Finance
Covers the economics of school finance relating to theories and principles of taxation, reimbursement, financial planning and budgeting, governmental impact, court intervention and the effects on public and non-public schools. Practical applications using local school district situations will be considered when possible.

686 K – 12 School Administration Practicum
