Become a Community Engagement Scholar
This year-long, part-time AmeriCorps program provides each Community Engagement Scholar with a financial education award in return for completing 300 hours of service to the community. Scholars follow an Action Plan, developed in cooperation with faculty mentors, which includes these components:
- Department work: 3-4 hours weekly assisting department mentor with a service-learning class, community-based research project or other community-engagement activity.
- Intensive community placement: 3-4 hours weekly with "hands-on" service at a community site.
- Training: participation in August orientation as well as periodic student leadership training sessions throughout the academic year, coordinated by the Office of Service-Learning.
Applying to be a Community Engagement Scholar
Students in any year or any major can apply to be a Community Engagement Scholar. However, this is a highly selective program and students with a track record of service and a strong commitment to working collaboratively will be sought.
Individual departments and faculty host CE Scholars. If you complete our CE Scholar Interest Form, you will be notified as positions become available.
