General Sororities

Alpha Gamma Delta
General Sorority

Alpha Gamma Delta is committed to serving others, and members volunteer weekly at local charitable organizations. The chapter sponsors the annual Grab-A-Greek Auction where proceeds go to the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation that supports many philanthropic endeavors including the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. The Sorority raises thousands of dollars each year for the national philanthropy, and are active participants in numerous campus blood drives.

Members regularly receive the status as premiere women leaders at Duquesne and throughout western Pennsylvania. Alpha Gamma Delta continues to be surrounded with successful, talented, and exceptional women who are committed to the values of the International Fraternity and the mission of our Alma Mater.

Alpha Phi
General Sorority

The sisters of the Epsilon Iota Chapter of Alpha Phi participate in several events both in the community and on campus. Alpha Phi's primary philanthropy, the Alpha Phi Foundation, provides leadership and educational opportunities, encourages superior scholarship and supports women's cardiac health. In addition, we also volunteer in the community as well, such as: soup kitchens, medical supply fundraising & collection, humane society volunteering and nursing home service. We also participate in Duquesne University events such as Carnival, Greek Week and support other Greek-sponsored events. We enjoy attending both service and social events, and strive for a balance between the two. We strive for the greatest sense of womanhood and do this by not only supporting each other, but also in supporting others of the Greek community.

Alpha Sigma Tau
General Sorority

Academic excellence, new experiences, friendship -- these are what Alpha Sigma Tau promotes. Since their founding in 1899 at Michigan State Normal College, members have continually demonstrated academic and philanthropic strength throughout their activities with their national philanthropies namely the Pine Mountain Settlement School of Harlan County in Kentucky, and their newly established partnership with Habitat for Humanity. Nationally recognized, Alpha Sigma Tau has helped define sisterhood and has articulated thousands of strong willed women with a true understanding of purpose.

Delta Zeta
General Sorority

The sisters of the Kappa Xi Chapter of Delta Zeta do many things throughout the year to support their philanthropy, the Speech and Hearing Impaired, and to support Greek Life in general. We host many events to raise money, such as the annual "Big Man on Campus" charity pageant, in which each fraternity sponsors a member to participate. We also participate in Greek-wide events, such as Greek Week and Carnival, and are very supportive of events hosted by other members of Greek Life which help to support their philanthropies.

Gamma Phi Beta
General Sorority

Gamma Phi Beta prides itself in having a sorority full of fun-loving, well-rounded women. Our sisterhood is evident in our campus leadership, school spirit, community service, and most of all, in our friendships. It is through these friendships that our true strength as a chapter lies – the genuine sisterhood which gives us the courage to try the new and daunting, comfort in knowing that we will be accepted as we are, support from sisters who want us to succeed and flourish, and pride that we have such an incredible group of girls we can call friends and family.

The sisters of Gamma Phi Beta take pride in successes, including their achievements in philanthropic, academic, and social activities.

Sigma Kappa
General Sorority

Established in 2006, the Kappa Mu Chapter of Sigma Kappa Sorority is relatively new to Duquesne's campus. We strive each and everyday to not only make Greek Life better but Duquesne as a whole a better place to develop an education, even it is by just simply putting a smile on our faces. We participate in as many campus events as possible such as Greek Week and Carnival which make the bonds in our sisterhood even stronger! We will soon sponsor our own event on campus, which we could not be more excited about, to help support our philanthropies, such as Alzheimer's research! We look forward to progressing on to bigger and better things, as we make our home at Duquesne University!

Zeta Tau Alpha
General Sorority

Zeta Tau Alpha was nationally founded on October 15, 1898 at the State Female Normal School (now Longwood College) in Farmville, Virginia by nine young women. The group wanted their friendships to be permanent and to create a sisterhood that lasted long after college. The nine young ladies named their Greek-lettered organization after contemplating an appropriate Greek name and symbols.

A few strong Greek members of the local Alpha Phi Omicron sorority at Duquesne University saw the importance and vision of national fraternalism and soon became the founding sisters of the Eta Beta Chapter chartered on April 20, 1970.
