RESEARCH, PUBLICATIONS AND SERVICE
Dr. Scheid’s research interests are in the area of social ethics, and more specifically in ecological and comparative ethics. His dissertation, entitled "Let All Creatures Praise the Lord: God, Creation, and Promoting the Cosmic Common Good," represents the confluence of these interests. Written under the supervision of Stephen Pope, Francis Clooney, S.J. and Lisa Sowle Cahill, his dissertation sought to establish the theological bases for an interreligious ecological ethic by putting Thomas Aquinas in dialogue with Vedanta Desika, a fourteenth century Srivaishnava (Hindu) theologian. Other interests include the ethical treatment of animals, comparative spirituality, and the ethics of food.
Dr. Scheid has presented papers at various conferences, including the Catholic Theological Society of America, the Society for Christian Ethics, and the College Theology Society. Dr. Scheid has been a convener of the “Theology, Ecology, and Natural Sciences” section of the College Theology Society since 2007.
