RESEARCH, PUBLICATIONS AND SERVICE

A specialist in ritual studies, liturgics and sacramental theology, Dr. Worgul  has authored two books, From Magic to Metaphor: A Validation of Christian Sacraments (New York: Paulist, 1980 [details]) and Issues in Academic Freedom (Pittsburgh: Duquesne University Press, 1992) [details]. He has published 45 articles in scientific journals and given hundreds of presentations in the United States and Europe.

His most recent publications have been an introduction to Sacraments and Post-Modernity, by Prof Bert Leijssen and “Sacraments as Iconic Interruptions of the Loving God” in God’s Sacramentele anwezigheid In de wereld van vandaag, 2008. His recent international lectures include: "Ministry in a Post Modern World"; Lectures at the Convocation of Anglican Church in Europe, Cannes France; "Marriage as Eucharist: Recovering the Sacred in the Body and Sexuality", INTAMS, Brussels, Belgium; "Marriage and the Church: Contours and Challenges" Spiritan School of Theology, Kimmage, Dublin, Ireland; "Marriage in the Post Modern World" International Sacramental Theology Conference (LEST Conference), Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium; Workshop on Marriage and Relationships to National Conference of Catholic Counselors, Cavan, Ireland.  He recently has presented “Marriage in America”, Pittsburgh Pastoral Care Conference, 2009; “Ecumenical Challenges: Religion in America”, Christian Associates of Western Pa, 2009, “Marriage: Iconic Interruption of the Loving God," Milltown Institute, Dublin Ireland, 2008; "Religion in America: The Pew Report”, Milltown Institute, Dublin Ireland, 2008;  “Marriage in Post Modernity,” Milltown Institute, Dublin Ireland, October 2007; “Sensus Fidelium and Reception by the Church: An Ecumenical Perspective”, Katholieke Universiteit te Leuven, Belgium, Nov 2007.

Dr Worgul has been very active in training the next generation of theologians by having directed thirty one doctoral dissertations.  He was been selected for the President’s University Excellence Awards in both teaching and scholarship.
