    Assistant Vice President & Chief Information Officer

    Duquesne University, a private, Catholic institution located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, invites applications for the position of Assistant Vice President and Chief Information Officer (AVP/CIO). Reporting to the Vice President for Management and Business, the new AVP/CIO will provide proactive and strategic leadership of the University's information technology (IT) services, facilities, hardware and software, and professional staff. The new AVP/CIO will be a collaborative leader with the proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with diverse constituents and to ensure technology is aligned with strategic initiatives.

    The new AVP/CIO will oversee Computing and Technology Services (CTS), which consists of 70 professional and support staff and over 100 student assistants. This position is responsible for a budget of approximately $6.3 million per year. The University supports the Ellucian/Banner system for administrative computing. A gigabit ethernet core data network is in place and the campus is fully wireless. The campus supports both the Windows and Macintosh desktop platforms and has a growing emphasis on research computing.

    The new AVP/CIO will be responsible for overall management and strategic planning for all IT services including administrative computing, centralized infrastructure, and a variety of technology support services including but not limited to enterprise reporting, telecommunication services, and security. Duquesne seeks an accomplished leader who will foster a culture within CTS defined by excellent customer service, innovation, thought leadership, and accountability. S/he must be able to build, motivate, and retain a high performing team.

    The new AVP/CIO will guide the development and implementation of an IT strategy that will lead the institution into a new era, utilizing technology to support ongoing efforts to provide unparalleled opportunities in a mission-centered environment. S/he will serve as a leader on key campus IT committees, and will be proactive in making recommendations to help ensure the University's IT services leverage emerging technologies.

    Professional competencies include the ability to communicate well with stakeholders at all levels and to work collaboratively and effectively with faculty, students, staff, administrators, peers, and vendors; to manage resources when demand exceeds capabilities; and to act ethically in all matters. Duquesne seeks a thought leader who will encourage innovation and support for earlier technology adoption; focus on improving project prioritization and IT governance practices; guide short and long term technology planning; leverage technology to improve operational effectiveness, drive new revenue sources, and contribute to the development of e-Learning strategies.

    Additional requirements include a deep understanding of the strategic issues facing colleges and universities; a working knowledge of and experience with the broad infrastructure, security, administrative and academic technologies of a university; must have led complex, institution-wide deployments of technology solutions and services; must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and must have experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders.

    Candidates must have earned a master's or bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field of study. Additionally, at least 10 years of progressively responsible technical, supervisory, and project management experience are required, preferably in higher education.
