Power Outage

Update – Monday, February 25 – 1:40 p.m.

Normal electrical service was restored to St. Martin, St. Ann and Assumption Halls.

Update – Sunday, February 24 – 6:00 p.m.

We are currently operating at nearly full capacity on generator power while the electrical repairs are being finalized and tested.

On Monday, February 25, electrical crews will transition St. Ann, St. Martin and Assumption Halls from generator power to regular electrical service. The buildings will remain open during this transition; however, these Living Learning Centers will be without power from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Wireless internet service will also be disrupted from 8:30 a.m. until approximately 5:00 p.m. on Monday.

Bathrooms in St. Martin will be affected during this time. Men may utilize the 2nd and 4th floor bathrooms. Women may utilize the 3rd and 5th floor bathrooms.

Students should postpone using the laundry facilities until 5 p.m. on Monday.

The Hogan Dining Center in the Duquesne Towers will be open from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. to accommodate students. Food and wireless will be available.

It is expected that all Living Learning Centers will be fully operational at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 25, 2013.

Update – Sunday, February 24 – 10:00 a.m.

St. Ann's, St. Martin's and Assumption halls will reopen at noon on Sunday, February 24. The residence halls will be running on generators.

Update – Friday, February 22 – 5:00 p.m.

Crews have determined that the power outage was caused by a faulty cable and are working to replace it.


University crews are working diligently to restore power to St. Ann, St. Martin and Assumption Halls. The buildings will reopen on Sunday at noon under regular systems or using generators. However, residents of these buildings may retrieve any necessary items from their rooms between 2 and 4 p.m., today, Friday, February 22, 2013.

Those students still in need of temporary housing are instructed to come to the Towers multi-purpose room by 10 p.m. tonight for assistance. After that time students may call 412-396-2472 to request the assistance of the Resident Director on Call.

Attention St. Ann, St. Martin and Assumption Hall residents,

As you are aware, there is a temporary power outage interrupting service in your hall. CLASSES ARE CANCELED FOR FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2013.

The loss of electricity has also interrupted heating service and plumbing.Therefore, St. Ann, St. Martin and Assumption will close at 10:00 p.m. tonight.

Students are urged to go home for the weekend if possible, or stay with friends in other Living Learning Centers, or off-campus.

All remaining students who need housing should report to the Towers Multi-Purpose Room for further instructions. Please note that the Power Center and Duquesne Union will be open 24 hours until further notice.

As always, students are reminded to lock their doors and windows when they are leaving their room. Remember to take any necessities with you including medication, books or course materials.Take blankets, pillows and other comfort items.

University Facilities Management personnel and additional professionals are working diligently to restore power as quickly as possible.
