As the Vice President for Enrollment Management, Paul-James Cukanna is responsible for providing strategic direction and management to the areas of undergraduate and graduate admissions, enrollment research and systems, financial aid, registration, retention and enrollment marketing and communications.
Since joining the University in 1997, Cukanna has worked under the divisions of student affairs, management and business and academic affairs, while holding leadership positions in financial aid, institutional research and admissions.
Cukanna is a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC); the Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling (PACAC), the Association for Institutional Research (AIR) and the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO).
Prior to his arrival at Duquesne, Cukanna worked in enrollment services at the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University and as a higher education consultant to Coopers & Lybrand.
A native of Punxsutawney, PA, Cukanna has an undergraduate degree in biology and chemistry from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and dual, graduate degrees in public policy and business administration from Carnegie Mellon University. He also has a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from Duquesne.
Cukanna is a member of the St. Maria Goretti parish in Bloomfield where he serves as a Eucharistic minister. In 2002, he was selected to receive the President's Distinguished Staff Award in appreciation for his exceptional dedication and service to the University community.
