Palumbo Center Renovations: 2005-2006

The Board of Directors today approved $20M for two sports-related projects designed to advance athletic recruitment efforts and provide new recreation facilities for all students—renovations of the A.J. Palumbo Center and construction of a new multipurpose recreation center.

Duquesne University is committed to enhancing its athletics programs and fostering an environment in which our student-athletes can reach their fullest potential.  These are the planned Palumbo Center varsity athletics renovations:

  • Approximately $2M renovation
  • Construction will begin in June, slated for completion Fall 2005
  • New student-athlete recruitment center
  • Film viewing and editing suites
  • Expanded men’s and women’s basketball offices
  • Expanded weight training and physical therapy facilities
  • Additional Athletics Offices for other varsity programs

Multi-Purpose Recreational Facility

  • $18M budget allocation in FY06 budget
  • Projected completion: 2006-2007 academic year
  • Entire facility approximately 150,000 square feet located on Forbes Avenue (80,000 for the recreation areas)
  • Basketball courts, racquetball courts, dek hockey, cardio-fitness facility, exercise and dance studios, locker rooms
  • WDUQ studios and offices
  • Ballroom, kitchen and roof-top deck
  • Pedestrian foot bridge over Forbes connecting both sides of campus
  • Retail space on ground floor of recreation center
