Duquesne University and UPMC Announce Partnership
Duquesne University has finalized the sale of its pharmacy, located on Centre Avenue in Pittsburgh's Hill District, to UPMC's Rx Partners, Inc.
The pharmacy will operate under the name "UPMC Community Pharmacies" at its current location and will remain a community pharmacy, offering services to local residents as well as to Duquesne faculty, staff and students through the University's Center for Pharmacy Care.
As they do now, Duquesne University students and pharmacy residents will work and learn in the space. Clinical pharmacy services also will continue. Pharmacy customers will experience no break in service.
"UPMC is an integrated global nonprofit health enterprise with vast experience operating hospitals and community pharmacies," said Dr. Doug Bricker, dean of the Duquesne University School of Pharmacy. "We know that the Centre Avenue location of the pharmacy provided invaluable services to our neighbors in the Hill District. We committed to this sale after ensuring UPMC can enhance service to the community while allowing access for Duquesne pharmacy students to that clinical environment."
"UPMC will use its network to expand comprehensive care that reaches beyond traditional services and may include specialty medications, physician services, allied health and other care coordination options," said Lisa Rossi, director of the UPMC Retail Pharmacy Network.
Established in 2010, the Duquesne University Pharmacy offers prescription services; chronic disease management; health-risk assessments; wellness promotions; compounding; diabetes consultation; flu shots; immunizations; and medication reviews. In addition, the pharmacy provides a unique and active learning environment where Duquesne University student pharmacists learn to engage, interact and improve patient health outcomes of patients in local communities.
Founded in 1878, Duquesne is consistently ranked among the nation's top Catholic universities for its award-winning faculty and horizon-expanding education. A campus of nearly 9,500 graduate and undergraduate students, Duquesne prepares students by having them work alongside faculty to discover and reach their goals.
