Jian Wang is an Adjunct Instructor in School of Leadership and Professional Advancement (SLPA). He started teaching in Duquesne in 2012, and has taught a wide array of technical and managerial courses in information system management. Currently he teaches two courses: - CECE-425, Electronic Comm. and Cyberspace for the Leader - CECT-495, Leadership Trends in Information Technology Among his past teaching are the following SLPA courses: - Object Oriented Programming in Java & .NET - Programming for WWW in HTML, Javascript & ASP.NET - Advanced Application Development - System Integration Besides teaching at Duquesne, Mr. Wang is a full-time Internet Application Architect with UPMC, where he designs & develops web-based application for patients to access their medical records. He also conducts informatics research with Department of BioMedical Informatics (DBMI) of University of Pittsburgh. Following are some projects he accomplished there: - Use semantic distance metrics on SNOMED-CT & FMA for their ontological audit. This work was presented at American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) 2010 annual conference. ' Medical terminology & concepts Harmonization based on their definition in Wikipedia. ' Investigation of the association between UPMC HealthTrak patient secure message and the application's lab test feature through analyzing patient message logs with Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools. ' Applying Think Aloud method to identify key elements in expert coding process of UPMC HealthTrak patient secure message. ' UI design Evaluation of a dentistry software with Cognitive Walk-through method. ' On-site observation & investigation of EMR's integration status in variety of clinical environments with TPS tools. Prior to joining the UPMC, Mr. Wang spent a number of years in private industry working for Fortune 500 companies such as Deloitte Consulting and Motorola. He also taught for three years in the department of business administration at University of Phoenix Pittsburgh campus and 3 years in Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) on part-time basis. Mr. Wang claims himself a life time learner. He earned an MS degree in Bio-Medical Informatics at University of Pittsburgh in 2010, an MS degree in Information Systems Management at Duquesne University in 1999, and an MS degree in Climate Modeling at Chinese Academy of Atmospheric Sciences in 1991. In his spare time, Mr. Wang run half marathon, play guitar, read and parent kids. He and his wife both came from China. They have 2 kids; Joy is 17 and Thomas is 9. Mr. Wang is an active member in Pittsburgh Chinese Church (Oakland).
