Bill O'Rourke is the Executive Director of the Beard Institute.
Prior to joining the Beard Institute, Mr. O'Rourke had a distinguished 36-year career at Alcoa. Mr. O'Rourke was named vice president, sustainability and environment, health and safety for Alcoa in September 2008, responsible for corporate EHS functions, environmental remediation and the company's sustainability function. Previously, he served as vice president of global business services and chief information officer, a position he assumed in January 2008. In this assignment, Mr. O'Rourke was responsible for leveraging global transactional processes and services for information technology, finance, human resources and environment, health and safety. As CIO, he led the strategic direction and integration of Alcoa's global information systems and security.
Mr. O'Rourke also served as president of Alcoa Russia, responsible for the substantial manufacturing assets Alcoa acquired in Samara and Belaya Kalitva in the Russian Federation. During the three years he was in Russia, Mr. O'Rourke spearheaded efforts to bring the facilities up to Alcoa's world class standards and oversaw an investment program that exceeded $500 million.
During his career with Alcoa, Mr. O'Rourke served in other leadership roles including vice president of audit, vice president of procurement and head of corporate staff services, which included financial shared services, procurement and other administrative services. He also held positions in Alcoa's legal department as corporate patent counsel and assistant general counsel. Mr. O'Rourke joined Alcoa in 1975 as a patent attorney.
Mr. O'Rourke currently serves on the board of the Alcoa Foundation and is also a visiting fellow at the Wheatley Institution at Brigham Young University. He earned a Juris Doctor degree from Duquesne University and Bachelor of Science in business administration degree from John Carroll University.
