As Duquesne University's journal of arts and literature, :Lexicon is a student-run publication built to celebrate and encourage the arts and artists of Duquesne.
Having grown out of Duquesne's earlier journal, The Spiritan, :Lexicon has appeared each fall and spring semester since the fall of 2005. Through publishing the poetry, prose, drama, music, and visual art of Duquesne faculty, students, and alumni, :Lexicon promotes the arts through quality publications that showcase the vibrant spirit and talent of the extended Duquesne community.
:Lexicon's office is located on the sixth floor of College Hall, and the staff is composed of undergraduate and graduate students from across the university.
A limited number of issues are available each semester. Release parties are held at the end of each semester, and copies are then distributed around campus. Back-issues are available for reading at Gumberg Library, and a limited number of some issues are still available if you wish to contact the :Lexicon staff for interest in a given issue.
Interested in sharing your poetry or fiction? Wondering how an audience will receive that newly written monologue or personal essay? Just curious about what the Duquesne community is writing, and thinking about sharing your voice some time?
:Lexicon hosts Open Mic nights during the semester at the Barnes & Noble Café in the Power Center. All are welcome to come and present your work. Watch this space for information on the next Open Mic.
Next Open Mic: Saturday September 17th at 7pm in the Union Nite Spot. If you are interested in reading or performing, you can sign up here. All attendees will be entered to win a :Lexicon prize pack (including a t-shirt, stickers, and copies of previous issues).
