Philosophy Department Graduate Program Information

The Department of Philosophy at Duquesne University was one of the first graduate programs in the United States to specialize in phenomenology and contemporary Continental philosophy. Our program remains committed to this tradition and post-Kantian European philosophy. We also engage in teaching and research in the history of philosophy, both as as a program focus in its own right and as the necessary background for work in later continental thought.

We offer both M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in philosophy.

New Exchange Program with Heidelberg University for Graduate Students and Faculty

The philosophy department at Duquesne University is pleased to announce its new cooperative exchange program with Heidelberg University. Both departments currently have students on exchange at the partner university. This cooperation between the two departments is overseen by Research-Alumni Ambassador Dr. Jennifer Bates of the philosophy department at Duquesne University. Heidelberg University has one of the most storied and prestigious philosophy programs and the philosophy department at Duquesne is thrilled to announce this new exchange program and to allow this great opportunity for our graduate students.

In addition to student exchange, the two schools are also working on faculty exchanges. Duquesne University hosted Heidelberg's Dr. Markus Herrmann for the spring 2014 semester as he taught a graduate seminar on Kant. Additionally, Duquesne's Dr. Lanei Rodemeyer will be teaching in Heidelberg in 2014 - 2015.

It should be noted that students will not be eligible for the exchange program until finishing their coursework at Duquesne.

More information about this exchange programme can be found here.
