$4 Million Mellon Foundation Grant to Help Renovate, Add Cutting-Edge Science and Pharmacy Labs
Duquesne will continue to advance its distinctive role in Pittsburgh’s scientific community and beyond thanks to a $4 million grant from the Richard King Mellon Foundation. It is the largest foundation gift the University has ever received for academic facilities improvement.
Ryan Endowed Chair for Newman Studies Established With $2.5 Million Gift
The generous gift from alumna Catharine M. Ryan and her husband John T. Ryan III is the largest commitment to Duquesne from a living graduate, and marks the creation of the University’s 18th endowed chair. Dr. Kevin Mongrain, a noted Newman Scholar, has been named the inaugural Ryan Chair.
Supreme Court Justice Teaches Law Program in Italy
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito was the distinguished lecturer at the Law School’s Summer Study in Vatican City-Rome in July as part of the school’s Centennial celebration.
Duquesne Leads Environmental Experts to Ghana
Dean Dorothy Bassett and Dr. Stanley Kabala led 20 American professionals and graduate students through Ghana, giving drinking water-purifying pots to African communities.
Education Leaders Address Preparation of Future Teachers
Members of the School of Education recently traveled to Washington, D.C., to discuss the importance of preparing teachers to effectively serve students in high-needs settings.

Swimmers Receive Team Scholar All American Award
With a team cumulative GPA of 3.44 for the 2011 spring semester, the Dukes were tied for 21st in the nation among all Division I women’s swimming programs.
Men's Soccer Announces 2011 Schedule
The Dukes will open play under sixth-year coach Jake Ouimet on Friday, Aug. 26 against Niagara on Rooney Field.
Former Women’s Basketball Star Lands Head Coaching Job
Kristi Little, A-10 Defensive Player of the Year in 2008 and 2009, has been named head women’s basketball coach at Mount Aloysius College in central Pennsylvania.
Zach Richert Nominated for Allstate AFCA “Good Works” Team
The junior linebacker is one of 132 nominees for the national award recognizing selfless contributions to volunteerism and community service.
The Keller Fieldhouse to be Dedicated
The facility, funded by private donations including a lead gift from Jerome C. Keller, E'65, H'91, includes renovated and expanded locker rooms and offices for Duquesne's football program.
