Rankings and Recognition Roll In
Duquesne has risen to No. 119 overall in the 2012 U.S. News & World Report rankings of more than 1,600 institutions and places 43rd for offering high academic quality at a good price, and a U.S. News survey of high school guidance counselors lists Duquesne among the nation’s top 125 undergraduate schools. Meanwhile, the Business School has maintained its global top 25 ranking for social, ethical and environmental stewardship, and Duquesne has been named to the G.I. Jobs list of most military-friendly schools for a fourth straight year.
Duquesne Only Private University in Pennsylvania to Receive Federal Economic Development Award
The five-year, $500,000 federal award from the U.S. Economic Development Administration will expand regional economic development tools for practitioners through Duquesne’s Small Business Development Center.
Duquesne's Pharmacy Offering Free Delivery
The Center for Pharmacy Services, a first-in-the-nation, university-operated community pharmacy, now offers free prescription delivery. The pharmacy is operated by the Mylan School of Pharmacy and serves both the public and the University community. Staffed by licensed pharmacists, the center helps patients manage their medications and live healthy lifestyles. For prescription delivery options, call 412.246.0963.
Study and Service Span the Globe
Recent initiatives include bringing water purification pots to Ghana, advocating on Capitol Hill for community health care, and teaching and learning bioethics in Saudi Arabia. On our Bluff, the number of incoming international students has risen 30 percent over last year.
Scholarships Promote Pursuit of Teaching
The University is offering 50 percent tuition and fee scholarships to all new freshmen entering the Leading Teacher preparation program in fall 2012. Scholarships are renewable for four years of undergraduate study as long as a student remains enrolled full-time in education. For more information, contact the Office of Admissions at 800.456.0590.

The 45th Annual College Fair will be held from 1-3 p.m. in the A.J. Palumbo Center. High school juniors and seniors can meet with representatives from more than 150 colleges and universities. Financial aid representatives will be available to answer questions.

Online Graduate Program for Healthcare Professionals
A new 30-credit Master of Science, Health Sciences program will help physician assistants, athletic trainers, nurses and other healthcare professionals enhance their careers by earning graduate credentials. Applications are now being accepted for the spring 2012 semester.
Alumni Invited to Participate in Accreditation Review
The School of Education is preparing for an accreditation review by NCATE in the coming academic year. All School of Education, Music Education and Speech Language Therapy alumni are invited to provide feedback to the evaluation team. SPORTS SHORTS
Cross Country
Men’s cross country is off to a great start with a dual meet record of 7-0, while the women’s team was recently ranked #10 in the Mid- Atlantic Region.
Football
The Dukes rolled over Valparaiso 49-14 in the home opener at Rooney Field. Quarterback Sean Patterson stole the show in a 41-44 win at St. Francis with four first-half touchdowns in the NEC opener. The Dukes will face CCSU and Wagner at home on Oct. 15 and Oct. 22.
Basketball
The A.J. Palumbo Center received a new playing floor in preparation for the 2011-12 seasons. Women’s basketball will play its first game on the new floor in an exhibition against California, Pa. on Saturday, Oct. 29, while the men tune up with pre-season games against Millersville (Tuesday, Nov. 1) and Shepherd (Friday, Nov. 4).
Volleyball
Women’s volleyball continues to dominate their competition, opening A-10 play with a win over George Washington and improving their September record to 8-4.
Soccer
Women’s soccer will play their last two regular season home games on Friday, Oct. 14 (St. Louis) and Monday, Oct. 16 (Charlotte); men’s soccer hosts St. Bonaventure on Friday, Oct. 7 and has four straight home games Oct. 21-30. Come out and support your Dukes!
